TENTATIVE DETAILS on the MILLION MILE MONDAY Ride

PLEASE READ everything below, it's important that we all are on the same page for this ride.
LEAVE THE DEALERSHIP AT 8:00 AM SHARP.
Pre Ride meeting at 7:45 am.

Don't forget this trip will take us into Georgia, so we have to bring our helmets!!!

Before I forget, I need to remind everyone to bring their most recent copy of HogTales for the photos.

From the Dealership we'll take SR-16 West through Green Cove Springs and Penney Farms.  Stay on SR-16 West and just past Camp Blanding and Kingsley Lake (after the four lane becomes two lane) SR-230 branches off to the left (mile 40.5).  Stay on SR-230 until you come to S. Water St in Starke.  Make a left onto Water St and then a right onto SR-100 West over the railroad tracks to US-301.  At the intersection of US-301 and SR-100 (mile 47.9) is the Shell Station we stopped at before.  We can take a short break there if anyone wants to.

Stay on SR-100 West to SR-225 and turn right.  Follow SR-225 to SR-229 and turn left. Follow SR-229 to SR-121 at Raiford (mile 60.7).  Somewhere in here we will stop for a photo of UNION CO. and the Town of Raiford.  We then stay on SR-121 South through Lake Butler and down to CR-236.  Turn right onto CR-236 through Sante Fe and on to High Springs.  At High Springs, CR-236 becomes US-27/41 South.  Follow that to CR-340 and turn right.  CR-340 will take us to GILCHRIST CO. and another photo opp.  Stay on CR-340 West to US-129.  Turn right onto US-129 and follow North to US-27.  There is a Shell Station at that intersection (mile 120.9).  We can take another potty break for the old people.

At this point, if anyone wanted to do a short MM Monday, they could run back US-27 East over to Floyd's Diner in High Springs and call it a day.  But, for the rest of us iron butts, (hard heads) we carry on!

Stay on US-27 West to Perry.  Somewhere in here we will stop for a photo of TAYLOR CO.  On to Perry.  In Perry, US-27 becomes US-98.  Stay on US-98 West.  Just West of town (mile 175.4)  there is a gas station named Rockey's Gas.  We could stop there if anyone wanted to.  Stay on US-98 West to SR-59.  Just West of SR-59 about a mile and a half, is the WAKULLA CO. border.  We can take a photo of WAKULLA CO. and JEFFERSON CO.  Return east to SR-59 and turn left (North).

Follow SR-59 North to Wacissa.  SR-59 comes to a T-Intersection. Take a left and go to SR-259.  Take a right (North) onto SR-259 all the way to US-19 and Monticello. (mile 234.8)  This is roughly the half-way point.  My computer shows it's 1:48pm (not counting photo stops).

I guess we will be eating on the run.  I saw a place called Country Kitchen Buffet and Grille just north of the County Courthouse.  I don't know if it's any good or not.  We really don't have time for a sit down meal anyway.

Stay on US-19 north to SR-149 North toward Georgia.  Cross over into Georgia and go to Boston, GA.  At Boston, GA turn right onto US-84 toward Quitman, GA.  At Quitman, GA we will stop for a photo opp.

Stay on US-84/221 to Valdosta, GA.  At Valdosta, GA turn right onto US-31 South to SR-94 South to Statenville, GA.  Somewhere in here we will stop for a photo of ECHOLS CO., GA.  At Statenville, GA turn south onto US-129 toward Florida.

When we cross into Florida we will stop for a photo of HAMILTON CO.  We will follow US-129 through Jasper and on down to I-75.  This is basically the end of the photos. (mile 323.9).

Then follow I-75 South to I-10 East to I-295 South to I-95 South back to the Dealership. (mile 441.5).

That' s the route in a nutshell.  I hope it makes sense.

-Neil Matthews (Ride Sponsor)

Before I forget, I need to remind everyone to bring their most recent copy of HogTales for the photos.

It looks like the route will stay pretty much the same except I found a by-pass around Valdosta, GA.  I'll show you below.

Here are some more details about where we will be stopping for photographs:

RAIFORD, FL:  After we leave the Starke Shell Station at the junction of US-301 and SR-100, we will head West on SR-100 for 4.4 miles.  Turn Right onto SR-225 for 3.7 miles.  Turn Left onto SR-229 for 4.7 miles.  This will bring you to the intersection of SR-121 and SR-229.  When you get to this intersection, the building to your immediate right is the Raiford Post Office (13132 NE SR-121).  We can take our Raiford, FL picture in front of this Post Office.

As a side note: On the way to Raiford, there was a beautiful bridge across the New River... but, no Fricking UNION COUNTY SIGN!!!  Oh well, we will have to get that on the way out of Union Co.

UNION COUNTY:  Leaving the junction of SR-121 and SR-229 head West through Lake Butler and through Worthington Springs for 16.3 miles until you come to the bridge across the Sante Fe River.  Of course, the UNION CO sign will be facing away from us on the opposite side of the road on the other end of the bridge.  We are going to have to pull over to the opposite shoulder to pose in front of the sign for our picture.  Watch out for dump trucks!

GILCHRIST COUNTY:  Fast forward to High Springs.  After we leave High Springs on US-27/41 South and turn right onto CR-340 West, we will go about 3.5 miles to the GILCHRIST CO sign.  This will be our third photo shoot.

TAYLOR COUNTY:  Fast forward to the Shell Station at the junction of US-27 and US-129.  Head West on US-27 for 21.6 miles to the junction of US-27 and SR-51 in Mayo.  Continue West on US-27 for 13.6 miles to the TAYLOR CO sign for our next photo.

After the photo shoot for Taylor County, we will continue West on US-27 for another 14.3 miles to the junction of US-221 and US-27 in Perry.  There is a BP gas station at this intersection.

WAKULIA CO & JEFFERSON CO:  Now for the boring part.  From the intersection of US-27 and US-221 we will continue West on US-27 which becomes US-98.  Follow US-98 west for 31.0 miles to SR-59.  Continue West another 1.6 miles to the WAKULIA CO sign and across the highway facing opposite, the JEFFERSON CO sign.

QUITMAN, GA: Fast forward to Boston, GA.  When we get to town, there is a right turn (onto Washington Street) and a few blocks later a left turn (onto Green Street) which take you up to US-84.  Turn right onto US-84 East for 12.1 miles.  This will take you to the Quitman City Limits Sign.  I would like to take a picture here in case we can't take a picture in front of the Post Office.

Why, pray tell, might we not be able to take a picture in front of the Post Office???  Could it be that the Friggin' Post Office is three stories tall and the name of the city is up under the eves???  I know, Ride and Have FUN, Ride and Have FUN, Ride and Have FUN...  Anyway, the Post Office is another 1.3 miles down the road on the opposite side of the street (410 E Screven St).  If we could pull off a photo in front of this Post Office it would be very cool!

From the Quitman, GA Post Office travel 14.7 miles to the junction of I-75 and US-84.  There is a Shell Gas Station here as well as some other gas stations on the left side of the road after you travel under the overpass.

Valdosta, GA By-Pass:  From the intersection of I-75 and US-84 go East 0.9 miles.  At St. Augustine Rd turn right and travel 1.6 miles.  At Gil Harbor Industrial Blvd turn left and travel 2.4 miles to SR-94.  Gil Harbor Industrial Blvd becomes Ulmer Ave 0.4 miles before it reaches SR-94.

HAMILTON CO & ECHOLS CO, GA:  Turn right onto SR-94 and travel 16.3 miles to Statenville, GA and the intersection of US-129 and SR-94.  Turn right onto US-129 for 6.0 miles to the GA/FL border.  There we take our photo of the HAMILTON CO sign and across the highway, facing opposite, the ECHOLS CO, GA sign.  This basically is the end of the ABCs of Touring.  The rest of the ride is Million Mile Monday!!!
